Tackling the climate & ecological emergency together

Christmas Clean & Comb Sat 14 Dec 12 noon

Family-friendly litterpick, beachcomb and nature hunt on Weymouth Town Beach. Please meet us at 12 noon by the Jubilee clock on Weymouth Esplanade, or on the beach if you're joining later. We will provide litter-picking equipment e.g. pickers and rubbish bags, and smaller bags for nature's treasures, but you might prefer to bring your own gloves. We expect to be finished by 1.15pm, but feel free to come and go as you need.

Please feel free to dress for the occasion, all Santas, elves, helpers, reindeers, snowpersons and other Christmas and Yuletide characters welcome, including humbugs, grinches or scrooges if Christmas just ain't your thang.

It is as much a chance to spend time with our coastal nature and collect any appropriate treasures as it is to clean up other people's litter. We encourage people to create something arty from any beachcombing items or donate them to us for a community art project.

Tips for litter-picking to avoid any injury:
• Wear gloves • Don't pick up broken glass • Don't pick up any needles - report them • Watch out for incoming waves! • Leave any unbagged dog poo and dead animals

For beachcombing there is one request: Don’t be greedy – collect natural things sparingly, as they provide food and shelter for strandline creatures. There is a nice guide to beachcombing from BBC Countryfile
